TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Jokowi expressed his support for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) amid the polemic to emasculate the antigraft body. To reporters, President Joko Widodo asserted that he is against all forms of efforts to impair the KPK.
"The KPK must remain strong and its combat against corruption practices must not weaken. Our country still needs extraordinary measures to battle corruption." the president said in Jakarta, Tuesday, June 13.

Jokowi also said he is against anyone planning to reduce KPK's power. He asks people to keep supporting the anti-graft agency so it will continue being an independent institution with the power to eradicate corruption.
"We have to have that thought as a foundation for our every step and in making decisions related to the KPK. We must never think about how to emasculate the KPK," he asserted.
When asked about the House of Representatives' (DPR) move to use its inquiry rights against KPK following House members' alleged involvement in the electronic ID card (e-KTP) graft, Jokowi only said that it is "the DPR's area."
