TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The number of traffic accidents in West Java throughout April left 101 motorists dead and dozens of others injured. According to West Java traffic police Comr. Marthius, most of the traffic accidents were caused by human negligence.
“Many of the accidents were caused by traffic violations. Such as not having a driver’s license and riding not roadworthy vehicle,” he said Tuesday, May 2.
Throughout last month, according to Marthius, West Java recorded 214 cases of traffic accidents. The cases include 265 motorcycle accidents, 72 car accidents, 17 bus accidents, and 55 truck accidents.
“These accidents mostly involve motorists aged 16 to 35-year-old,” Marthius said.
Two recent bus accidents in Puncak have caught the public off-guard. Both incidents occurred only one week apart from each other.
The police would legally prosecute the driver and the bus company managements, considering that the accidents were caused by their lack of maintenance towards the bus fleets.
“Especially for the one that happened in Cianjur, we will go after the bus management. We could possibly name them as suspects,” Marthius said.
