TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo will inaugurate new Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) building on Tuesday, December 29, 2015.
"Tomorrow, Jokowi will inaugurate the new KPK building," said Pramono on Monday, December 28, 2015. Pramono added that Jokowi and five newly appointed KPK leaders will attend the inauguration.
The new building was built because KPK's old office in Kuningan, South Jakarta, could no longer accommodate the increasing number of KPK employees. Currently, the Commission employs more than 1,000 people.
PT Hutama Karya started the construction of the new KPK building back in 2013. The building consists of 16 floors that will be divided according to KPK directorates. Rooms spesifically intended for investigation purposes will also be provided.
In addition, a new detention center capable of holding 50 corruptors has been built adjacent to the new building.
The building construction had caused a polemic because it was rejected by the House of Representatives' legal commission. However, the building was eventually approved in 2013 with multiyear budget; Rp. 40.8 billion in 2013; Rp. 110.1 billion in 2014; and Rp. 74.83 billion in 2015.
