TEMPO.CO, Bandung - President Joko Widodo has called on all Asian and African countries to fight for equality to developed countries in other regions.
“We have to help each other to boost economic and trade cooperation, so that we can be equal to the world,” said Jokowi during his speech at Merdeka Building on Friday.
Jokowi said the challenges faced by Asian and African nations had changed in the past 60 years. According to the president, many Asian-African countries were still facing poverty and global violence and cooperation between nations was necessary to achieve peace and prosperity in the regions.
“Indonesia is still trapped in poverty. We are lagging behind compared to other countries. Countries in Asia and Africa also face this problem. That’s why we have to continue the struggle of our leaders,” said Jokowi.
In his speech, Jokowi also asserted that Asian and African countries must keep fighting for Palestinian independence as it was in line with the goal of the Asian-African Conference (AAC) initiators in 1955.
“Let’s continue the struggle of our leaders. We must fight for Palestinian independence,” said Jokowi.
