TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Four PT Freeport Indonesia employees died in an accident on an open mining road in Grassberg, Papua, Indonesia, on Saturday, September 27. The accident involved one Toyota car and one haul truck CAT 785.
The mining organization's spokesperson, Daisy Primayanti, stated the incident occurred at 07:24 local time. The Toyota car carried eight passengers, meanwhile one person on the haul truck. “Victims died after they were transported to Tembagapura Hospital,” she said. Antara reported three people were confirmed dead, Simon Seba, Luther Patangi, and Nursio. Meanwhile, the injured victims are Billy Angresu, R. Thomas Siloy, Irianto, Andi Andreas, and one more victim whose identity has not been revealed yet.
Besides four deceased, other five mining workers have been evacuated to Tembagapura hospital. According to Daisy, the Grassberg Mine Rescue team has been dispatched to provide aid and carry out the evacuation process.
PT Freeport's management, Daisy said, has reported the incident to the energy and mineral resources ministry. “We have sent our deepest condolences to grieving families,” she explained.
