TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) stated that the appearance of elite figures from the National Mandate Party (PAN) and the United Development Party (PPP) at the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle's (PDIP) national working meeting in Semarang does not reflect a disunity in the Merah Putih Coalition. PKS Secretary General, Fahri Hamzah, viewed that Jokowi is not confident due to minimum support in the parliamentary.
“Merah Putih Coalition is solid. There are no problems,” he said at Sahid Hotel, Jakarta, Sunday, September 21. Instead, he insinuated that Jokowi could not accept the fact that in the presidential system, the elected president does not require legislative roles. This is because he viewed Jokowi is not so confident in running his government without legislative support.
He challenged Jokowi to be courageous and confident in running his government with minimum support from the House of Representatives (DPR). He explained that in the presidential system, if a party is taking control of the executive then there should be another bigger party in the legislative. “It is good for the people, for check and balances. Give the legislative a chance to monitor,” he said.
