TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Presidential motorcade is known for its strict protocol, often closing streets when on the move. However, president-elect Joko Widodo made a breakthrough today as he stopped his bus, which was part of the presidential convoy with President Yudhoyono, to talk to the press.
Jokowi, upon leaving the Jakarta Convention Center for MP3EI evaluation, hit the road behind President Yudhoyono's motorcade. Under heavy security from members of the Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres), Jokowi’s bus headed out.
Outside, reporters were lining on the side of the road, waving their hands and calling out his name—all expecting he would come out and answer some questions.
In an unlikely event, Jokowi’s bus stopped and he ordered the reporters to come step aboard. Only ten are allowed, including a Tempo reporter. The bus then departed, catching up with the presidential convoy, while Jokowi was on board the bus answering questions from several lucky reporters.
