Indonesia Corruption Watch urged the Corruption Eradication Commission to resume investigations on the Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance (BLBI) case. The nongovernmental organization said verdict on Artalyta Suryani and the trial of ex-prosecutor Urip Tri Gunawan, could be the entry point to reinvestigate the scandal which have costed the government Rp 144 trillion.
“The case of Artalyta and Urip proved there were bribes in the BLBI case,” said Danang Widoyoko. The body suspected that Artalyta was not a victim of extortion, the money was handed as bribe for the Attorney General Office, to proceed the BLBI case against Sjamsul Nursalim as a violation of the civil codes not as a violation of the criminal codes.
ICW also recommended the government to investigate the handover the assets of BLBI obligors from the Indonesian Banking Restructuring Agency to the government suspectedly ridden with bribes involving the AGO.
ICW said the facts dictate that the case was no longer possible to be handled by the AGO.
