TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - BNPB spokesperson said the victims of flood in four districts in Buru Regency, Maluku are in need of food and clothes. The flood struck the area on Wednesday.

"It is caused by the high-intensity precipitation accompanied by the burst of five embankments in Wayapo, Waylata, Waygeren, Waytina and Waylo villages," National Disaster and Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesperson Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said Friday, June 16.

Sutopo explained that the flood that struck 16 villages in Buru Regency has caused one dead victim. The flood also inundates 625 houses with 30-200 cm high of water and 450 hectares of land is also inundated.

"The data of the victims are still being collected," Sutopo said. He added that the flood has begun to subside, but rain is still pouring with medium intensity.

A number of measures have been taken by BPBD (regional disaster and mitigation agency) Buru Regency, the National Military and Police, Sutopo said, including evacuation, data collection and setting up health posts. BPDB also warns the residents to keep alert of the recurrence of flood and provide logistic aid including instant noodle and mineral water.
