TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi met with Mauritanian Foreign Minister Samura Kamara at a the 5th international Islamic Cooperation Organization (OKI) Summit held on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Jakarta Convention Center.
Both Indonesia and Mauritania urged OKI members to support Palestine and addres Al-Quds al-Sharif issue. The meeting also discussed Islamic states’ role in realizing peace between Palestine and Israel.
Both countries also agreed to tighten economic ties and set a schedule for Mauritania to be introduced to Indonesian signature products and commodities, such as CPO, textile, and electrical equipment.
“Indonesia is ready to cooperate in capacity building and tighten the relationship between the two countries,” Retno said in a press release on Sunday, March 6, 2016.
In 2016, Indonesian mining companies have been operational in Mauritania, employing 100 workers. The trade volume between the two countries in 2015 stood at US$61.086 million. Meanwhile, the trade volumes in 2013 and 2014 stood at US$96.75 million and US$107.78 million, respectively.
Indonesia’s export volume to Mauritania in 2015 stood at US$59.449 million, while in 2014 the export volume stood at US$106.81 million. Indonesia’s import volume from Mauritania stood at US$1.6 million in 2015 and US$978,000 in 2014.
