TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 5th Extraordinary Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit in Jakarta on March 6-7, 2016 will issue Jakarta Declaration which contains a number of actions to resolve Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif issues.
Based on information received from Foreign Ministry in Jakarta, Wednesday, the Summit is expected to be attended by all heads of state/government of the OIC members and the OIC observer states.
The 5th Extraordinary OIC Summit on Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif will also issue a resolution which contains political stance of the OIC member states.
Both documents will be prepared by Indonesia as the host country and Palestine.
The Summit is also a follow-up on the momentum established by Indonesian Government throughout 2015 in support of Palestinian people struggle, i.e. Declaration on Palestine which was issued in the Commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Asian-African Conference on April 2015 and the International Conference on the Question of Jarusalem on December 2015.
The motive behind the Summit is deep sympathy of Indonesian Government over the deteriorating situation in Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Syarif.
The 5th Extraordinary OIC Summit is the first summit to raise Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif issues.
Previously, Palestinian Ambassador for Indonesia Fariz Mehdawi said that Palestinian Government hopes that the Extraordinary OIC Summit could produce concrete measures to address the Palestine issue.
“Indonesian Government has shown its leadership in calling for the international society to find solutions in Palestine and Jarusalem. We hope that the meeting of all heads of Muslim states could be realized,” said Ambassador Fariz Mehdawi in a special interview with Antara on Friday, February 19, 2016.
He hoped that the Summit would at least establish three concrete measures to address the main issues of Palestine namely in putting pressure to Israel to fulfill its obligations and make a committment to find peace solutions based on the UN Resoltion and international law, to find concrete way in establishing Israeli-Palestinian borders and emphasizing on the need of concrete measures to repatriate Palestinian people who are currently living outside of Palestinian territory due to illegal occupation by Israel.
Fariz Mehdawi said the regions wanted by Palestine to be part of its country are the West Bank, Gaza and East Jarusalem as the capital of Palestine.
