TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission's (KPK) five newly appointed leaders paid the National Police's (Polri) Headquarters a visit and met with Polri Chief Gen. Badrodin Haiti, to synchronise their efforts in eradicating corruption. "There needs to be an increased coordination and cooperation between KPK, the Attorney General's Office (AGO), and Polri," said Badrodin in Jakarta on Monday, January 4, 2016.
According to Badrodin, cooperation and coordination between law enforcement agencies are crucial to eradicate and prosecute incidences of corruption. "For instance, we have a lot of manpower behind Polri, but we don't have the authority that KPK to act to prevent eradicate corruption," Badrodin said.
In the meeting, Badrodin explained that both KPK and Polri is planning several action plans - including the creation of a quick-response unit, as well as joint-training, as well as plans to improve regional governance systems to prevent corruption. "There are areas whose governance seems to encourage corrupt behaviours - for instance, three consecutive governors of Riau have been linked to corruption," Badrodin said. "KPK will investigate this, in order to put in place corrections to the system of governance."
Badrodin said that Polri will extend their help to KPK, to help prosecute some cases if their help is needed - considering KPK's high case load. "They are free to ask Polri's investigators to assist in working on their cases," Badrodin added. "Simply to accelerate the prosecution process."
