TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Yenti Garnasih, a criminal law professor at Trisakti University, said President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s performance in eradicating corruption in Indonesia was no better than former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. According to Yenti, the indicator was the presidential instruction on corruption eradication that was insufficient with the corruption cases occurred in the country.
“Mr. Susilo did a very good job in eradicating corruption. He even let the KPK to investigate his minister and his party’s chairman. Now, efforts to eradicate corruption have been diminished by the presidential instruction,” Yenti said in an anticorruption discussion held by Liputan6 on Sunday, March 15, 2015.
Earlier, Jokowi planned to issue a presidential instruction proposed by the National Development Planning Agency. Yenti viewed that the enforcement of corruption eradication should be a priority program.
Yenti pointed out that corruption eradication in Indonesia could yet be compared with that in Hong Kong. Currently, she added, Hong Kong’s Independent Committee Against Corruption had managed to prioritize corruption prevention in the country.
“However, the prevention effort was a long way to go, and it began with an enforcement of anticorruption efforts,” she said.
