TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Recent crash of a Boeing 737-800 into the waters of Bali on Saturday, (13/4), adds to Lion Air's considerably long list of accidents. The company has had a record of an array of accidents, including failure to take off, tire burst, and skidding on the runway.
The plane was flying from Bandung, West Java, and was scheduled to arrive at the Bali Ngurah Rai airport at 15.16 local time. The plane overshot the runway and eventually plunged into the waters. Out of the 108 passengers and crew on board, 45 were reported to have suffered injuries. Gladly, there were no casualties in the incident.
Lion Air's poor safety measures alerted European and United States aviation agencies to ban the airline from flying into their airspace, according to media reports.
"Lion Air is banned from flying to the European Union and the United States," as reported by the Bangkok Post.
Similar reports also have been published by online news media the Huffington Post and The Australian. "Since 2002, the airline has experienced six accidents, one of which left 25 people dead," the Huffington Post reported, quoting the Aviation Safety Work.
