Low Participation in Small Business Loan Program

  • TEMPO Interactive, Surakarta: Achmad Baiquni, Director for Small-and Medium-sized Micro Enterprises (SMEs) and Syariah Services at national bank BNI 46 has said that 48.93 million enterprises in Indonesia are SMEs.The credit potential for these SMEs amounted to Rp1,270 trillion in 2007. But the participation is very low, said Baiquni, with only 19.56 percent or Rp248.47 trillion absorbed. Ratna Amiaty, Credit Director for Peoples Credit Banks (BPRs) and SMEs at Bank Indonesia said SMEs could actually survive in any situation. They can be stronger with the small business program, she said. Up until June 2008, the realization of small business loan program nationally reached Rp8.3 trillion with a total of 916,527 debtors.AHMAD RAFIQ
