TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) has revealed the results of its leadership survey in the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Strugge (PDI-P). The results showed that President Joko Widodo topped the list among figures deemed able to help improve the party's performance in the next five years.

"He was way above Megawati," said CSIS researcher Arya Fernandes on Wednesday, April 1, 2015.

The survey, which was held from February 16-19, involved regional heads, deputies and secretaries of the party's branches in all levels. Arya said that 26.6 percent of the respondents believed that Jokowi was capable of spearheading the party for the next five years, followed by Puan Maharani with 22.8 percent, and Megawati with 15.5 percent.

Arya, however, said the level of trust did not mean that the respondents were willing to vote for Jokowi as the party's chair. Most of the respondents said they believed Megawati could still lead the party, allowing for her integrity, leadership and organizational aptitude.

Another CSIS researcher, Philips J. Vermonte, said the different responses signaled that the majority of regional leaders were still reluctant to make a stance. He said that the real competition would come to light in 2019. "They will be put on a crossroad between preserving Soekarno’s descendants or electing others," he said.
