TEMPO.CO, Banda Aceh – President Joko Widodo is slated to lead a ground-breaking ceremony of the Keureuto Dam construction in Aceh on Monday, March 9, 2015.
Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadi Purnomo said the investment in the project, which is located on Jl. Pante Bahagia, Paya Bakong, North Aceh, was worth Rp1.7 trillion.
“The dam will function, among others, to control flooding,” he said.
Aceh Governor Zaini Abdullah and Nanggroe Aceh customary leader Malik Mahmud welcomed President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana in traditional ceremonies peusijuk and teumeutuk in the Meuligo Room at the Aceh Governor Office on Jl. Alaidin Mahmudsyah in the capital of Banda Aceh on Monday.
After the welcoming ceremony, the president is scheduled to leave for Arun to be filled in on the progress of the regasification of an ex-refinery belonging to liquefied natural gas (LNG) producer PT Arun NGL, before departing to the Keureuto Dam.
The dam construction is part of the North Aceh regency administration’s efforts to address the region’s annual flooding and produce irrigation water and raw water.
