TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo will immediately issue a Presidential Regulation (Inpres) Year 2015 on Corruption Eradication to fortify law enforcement institutions—including the Attorney General’s Office (AGO), the National Police and Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)—in the nation’s ongoing battle against corruption, Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto said.
“The 2015 Inpres on Corruption Eradication that governs the duties of ministries and other state institutions is expected to be completed this week,” Andi said at the State Palace on Wednesday, March 4, 2015.
“The draft Inpres has been submitted to the Cabinet Secretariat. The Inpres will hopefully be issued next week at the latest,” he said.
Andi said the issuance of the Inpres was part of the government’s effort to stem the lingering standoff between the KPK and the National Police—despite the president’s request for an immediate settlement of the dispute and calling on all quarreling parties to refrain from rolling out political maneuvers.
Andi said he was hopeful that the Inpres could become a foundation for the KPK, the National Police and the AGO in combating corruption bereft of authority overlaps and sectorial egos—allowing for the nature of the Inpres that called for joint endeavors from all law enforcement institutions against corruption.
“This is like a 2015 national strategy against corruption,” Andi said, adding that the president hoped that 70-75 percent of the country’s corruption eradication programs would be centered on preventive measures.
Andi, however, was non-committal when asked whether the Inpres—whose idea of conception came from the National Development Planning Board (BPPN)—also stipulated preventive measures against criminalization of any member of law enforcement agencies. “That’s a different issue,” he said.
