TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:: Indonesian Embassy staff in Singapore met with the main suspect of the BNI Bank fraud case, Maria Pauline Lumowa, on Thursday(11/12) in Singapore. “The meeting was held by a third party at the request of Lumowa. We had earlier agreed on the place and the time of the meeting,” Chalief Akbar, the spokesman of Indonesian Embassy in Singapore, told Tempo News Room by phone on Thursday afternoon (11/12). During the one-hour meeting, Indonesian Ambassador for Singapore Muhammad Slamet Hidayat requested Lumowa to returned immediately to Indonesia and settle the BNI fraud case. Hidayat guaranteed the safety of Lumowa if she returned to Indonesia. “I have persuaded her to return to Indonesia because that’s the only way,” said Hidayat. However, Lumowa, the owner of the biggest marble company in Southeast Asia PT Sagared Pertiwi, said that she needed to consult her lawyer on this matter. According to Hidayat, on Monday (8/12), Lumowa had already intended to pack her things and return to Indonesia. “But there was a phone call and an SMS saying that she would not return home,” Hidayat said quoting Lumowa. However, Lumowa declined to reveal the reasons on why she would not return to Indonesia. According to Akbar, Lumowa, a Dutch citizen of Manado descent, does not yet have any lawyer but she intended to use a lawyer from the Netherlands. The Indonesian Ambassador for Singapore could not set a deadline for Lumowa to return to Indonesia since Interpol is yet to make any request over the BNI Bank fraud case to the Indonesian Embassy.
